TIPS FOR ACTIVE WOMEN TO CARE FOR THEIR HAIR

Working up a sweat on a regular basis not only improves your health and tones your body, but also some habits that go along with being active aren't the most hair-friendly. The constant washing and drying is counter productive to looking it's best and if you have long hair like me, you're most likely to make hair mistakes that can lead to damaged hair in the long run. So while you look after your body with your workout, here are few tips to keep your hair in great shape too.

#1 YOU’RE SHAMPOOING AFTER EVERY WORKOUT

As gross as it sounds, washing and shampooing your hair too much is a big no-no. The reason is that it can dry out your hair and strip away all of the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair healthy. Instead, use a dry shampoo after the gym. It soaks up all the unwanted sweat and oil while absorbing all the impurities. Also, it saves a lot of time and takes away the excuse why you can't do a workout over your lunch break.

#2 YOU'RE NOT MOISTURIZING YOUR POST-WORKOUT HAIR

Use a moisturizing conditioner after every wash. Never walk out of a shower without it. Missing this step could be the reason why your hair is frizzy. On the days when you're using dry shampoo, add a little argan oil to your ends afterwards to lock in some moisture and keep your hair shiny and smooth. Conditioners are formulated to seal in the moisture content in the hair follicle, so don't use it for your scalp, it will only make it excessively oily. If you have an itchy scalp, a mixture of jojoba-oil and tea trea leave oil could relieve the itchiness.

#3 YOU'RE PONYTAIL IS TOO TIGH

"I love when my hair keeps falling in my face while I'm on the treadmill", said no one, ever! Tight hair ties tend to pull your hair back real tight which increases friction and this can cause breakage. Keep your ponytail loose or opt for a loose bun or braid instead, using bobby pins to keep your hair back.

#4 YOU DON'T EAT HEALTHY

Your health on the inside reflects on your hair, nails and skin too. The healthier you are the better your hair looks.  5 DON'T OVERAPPLY HEAT ON HAIR

No-one wants to spend too much time in the gym changing room, but putting your hairdryer on max heat strips the moisture content from your hair making it dry and frizzy. When over used, it can also burn your hair. Take your time, the 5 minutes longer you invest to dry your hair are worth it!

#6 YOU'RE BRUSH-ABUSING YOUR HAIR

Brushing is a sure way to increase the luster of your hair. It spreads the natural oils through the length of your hair. But don't over do this and I highly recommend investing a good brush and skip the plastic one. They can cause increased breakage.
